Roanoke Island, Outer Banks, North Carolina -Fort Raleigh. The walls in the picture are of the "Lost Colony". Colony was formed in 1585, one of the first.
A visit to Festival Park, provided a hands on look at the early settlers lives.
Luke worked on a dugout canoe with a shell. Those Indians had patience!
Grant had the opportunity to work on a manual lathe, and make a nail in the blacksmith shop.
We all sailed on the ship, and did a communication exercise. One side was Indian, one side was settler, and we each tried to communicate with the other side without using English, to give us an idea of how hard it would have been when the settlers landed and communicated with the Indians.
Amanda and I even enjoyed a "swim".
Today there was too many pictures to fit in one post, so this afternoons post, will come next.
