After lunch it was Kitty Hawk, site of the Wright Brothers making history with the first powered flight! As a pilot, it was amazing to be on the same ground where the brothers finally were able to sustain flight, making lift, power and having the abiltiy to control the craft. It was quite a scientific process, while at the same time making bicycles!
In the picture of the kids in front of the monument, you can see the makers of the flights, the last of the day nearly a minute and 852 feet. From what they learned they would be able to take much longer flights.
The sculputer the kids are pictured with, was put up for the 100th anniversary of the flight, based on pictures taken by the Wrights (one of the brothers was quite a photographer).
