Tuesday/Wednesday, May 4/5, Day 55/56

Today was Presidential, no doubt about it. We first visited Monticello, the home of Jefferson, President, and also drafter of the Declaration of Independence.

The house is really interesting, with lots of unique items. (Grant)- Liked the nook beds, calendar clock, dumbwaiter on the side of the fireplace. Also, gadgets, actual items from the Lewis and Clark expedition (he commissioned), a tunnel under the house, an ice storage well that even allowed them to make ice cream, gardens, and a host of other fun things.

The visitor center was also very well done, with pressure sensitive places on the floor that the kids could stand on and quotes of Jefferson would move to the wall. The first statue is of Jefferson.

Then it was off to Montpelier, the home of James Madison. Another President, and recognized as one of the main drafters of the Constitution. In fact in his study, there is ink on the floor, that he may have spilled while doing some of the drafting!

The house was also interesting in that it was recently owned then donated by the DuPont family. It is now in the process of being restored back to a more original condition.

On Wednesday, we decided to take another down day, get caught up on some personal business and rest. Those days go too fast!
