Thursday, May 6, Day 57

We finished up some routine things like an oil change as we started our 9th week!!!! on the road. About 7,000 miles since we left home.

We visited the new Marine Museum near Quantico. The museum was complete with boot camp. As we passed through the area, the instructors complemented me on my fine physical condition, although my ears were ringing from all the yelling going on, so I may have misheard that part!
It was a well done display, with more of a realistic emphasis than a romantic view.

In the World War II area, we even had the opportunity to talk with a veteran from Iwo Jima, just after coming out of a Iwo Jima landing craft simulation. It was something to talk with a guy who had actually been there. Not too many of those guys left, but this guy was still going at it.

We decided to splurge and eat out at Cracker Barrel (a favorite of the kids, since we order different things and split the multitude of plates that come out). Grant is at the age where kids meals don't cut it all the time anymore.

We stayed at a National Park RV park, and enjoyed a "Drive Thru History" DVD to prepare for some of the up coming historical sites. We have tried to watch historical programs before and after we see them to reinforce what we are learning.

  1. Hi! It's like watching a travel show with people I know as the stars. :) I didn't know about the Marine museum. Although we are Air Force people, the museum looks cool.
